Positions available

Position:  Project Manager

Description:  At Tobin Construction, Inc., a project manager is responsible for the business aspects of one or more projects and is responsible to the operations manager for the profitability of the project.  The project manager will develop a project plan that includes a schedule and budget, and will monitor progress and expenditures on a weekly basis, using actual data provided by the Finance Manager.  The schedule is a dynamic document that is updated by the project manager on a weekly basis, in conjunction with the project superintendent.  The project manager is also expected to understand and to help to coordinate the construction sequence and process.  He/she will staff the project, using in-house employees and/or sub-contractors, as appropriate, and order and coordinate the delivery of all materials and services required by the project.  The project manager will prepare and forward to the architect/designer all required submittals.  He/she manages client expectations and will meet with the client and architect/engineer (when involved) to address project-related issues and problems.  The project manager will control change through our formal change control process and generate change orders, as required.  He/she will coordinate and manage the work effort to ensure that a high-quality product is delivered, on-time and within budget.  The project manager will administer sub-contracts, in coordination with the corporate sub-contracts manager, and will specifically obtain certificates of insurance, W-9s, and releases of liens, as appropriate, from the sub-contractors.  He/she will administer the contract between Tobin Construction, Inc., and the client.  Depending on the nature of the project, the project manager may, at times, be called on to perform other project-related duties, as required.

Requirements:  The candidate for this position must be able to document his/her ability to be legally employed in the United States, as demonstrated by Federal Form I-9.  He/she must have a working knowledge of E-mail, Microsoft Excel and Word and be able to use a Fax.  The person selected for this position must also be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and have the interpersonal skills needed to manage a diverse team of in-house employees and sub-contracted staff.  He/she must be creative and solution-oriented in dealing with issues and problems related to the project.


Position:  Project Superintendent

Description:  A project superintendent is responsible for the technical aspects of one or more projects, and must understand the details of the projects at both a macro and micro level.  He/she will understand the work of all trades (e. g., electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), etc.), develop material take-offs, work with the project manager to identify and obtain best value (taking into account pricing and quality), and will manage and motivate both in-house and sub-contracted work crews.  He/she will assist the project manager in staffing the project, using in-house employees and/or sub-contractors, as appropriate, and in ordering and coordinating the delivery of all materials and services required by the project.  He/she will meet with the client and architect/engineer (when involved) to address project-related issues and problems.  The project superintendent will assist the project manager in controlling and managing change through our formal change control process and in generating change orders, as required, and will work with the project manager to plan the project, lay out the work from ground up, and will identify and resolve technical field problems before they become an issue or problem.  He/she will coordinate and manage the work effort to ensure that a high-quality product is delivered, on-time and within budget.  Depending on the nature of the project, the project superintendent may, at times, be called on to perform carpentry and other construction-related tasks.

Requirements:  The candidate for this position must be able to document his/her ability to be legally employed in the United States, as demonstrated by Federal Form I-9.  The project superintendent must be knowledgeable of and conversant in matters related to the structural design of building endeavors, and be able to interact with architects and engineers on such matters.   He/she must have a working knowledge of E-mail, Microsoft Excel and Word, be able to use a Fax, and be have the ability to read, interpret, and explain architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.  The person selected for this position must also be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and have the interpersonal skills needed to manage a diverse team of in-house employees and sub-contracted staff.
